As far as the subtitles are concerned these are new and make the films much easier to understand. You can consider the old subtitles in earlier issues of the film to be at best wrong or at worst crap and misleading.
In particular in the first film Sword of Vengeance if you did not understand why Lone Wolf went to the Hot Springs village overrun by bandit ronin in the second part of the film, this is now clear in the new subtitles.
Although there are no extras apart from trailers I consider the pruchase of this new box set, officially issued by Toho and Eureka to be the best versions of the films yet.
